
DeWitt began her stage career at the age of 13. DeWitt graduated from Ball State University with a Bachelor's degree in Arts. The director encouraged her to apply for UCLA's Department of Theater MFA program. She was awarded the Master of Fine Arts Fellowship in addition to the Clifton Webb Scholarship. While attending UCLA she worked as a secretary before making her television debut on an episode of Baretta.Contrary to reports that she was taught by actor Abe Vigoda, Dewitt has claimed that they have never met. DeWitt's role as Janet Wood in Three's Company's 1977-1984 period is among her most well-known. She was part of the pilot for the show and recruited. Janet was also featured in an episode of the show The Ropers, which she appeared in during 1979. DeWitt was the only actor to appear in the show's 1984 finale. She also appeared in an episode of Finder of Lost Lovers in 1984. After that, she stopped acting for many years. Acting was her first foray back to the stage in June of 1991 in which she appeared on the Noises Off production at Michigan's Cherry County Playhouse. [1] She later appeared in the 1995 TV comedy film Spring Fling! Pinky and the Brain featured the character an adaptation of her voice voice that was voiced by another actress in 1997. She was in an episode Cybill and also made an appearance in Living Single's last episode. [6] She has appeared on shows on TV such as Hope Island, The Nick at Nite Holiday Special, and Call of the Wild in 2000.
